The process of updating the NPR will be held between April and September 2020. The exercise, which will be carried out between April and September next year, is expected to cost Rs 8,500 crore, the government said.
Modi government has decided to create a National Population Register. On this register, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar made it clear at a press conference on Tuesday that NPR has no relation with NRC. He said that no proof, papers or biometric will be required during the National Population Register.
21 required questions will be asked under the National Population Register update. This includes parents’ birthplace, last place of residence, PAN number, Aadhaar, voter ID card number, driving license number and mobile number. When the census was held in 2010, 15 questions were asked. It did not include the parents’ birthplace and final residence. The central government has made it clear that no evidence or papers are required during the NPR but only the information given by the people will be considered correct.
NPR Mobile App
It was informed by the government that the census this time will be based on technology. For this, a special NPR app has been created and the National Population Register will be updated through the same APP. According to the Modi government, the census work is done every 10 years, so the census work has to be completed in 2020.
